San’s Message

So we had a trip up to the hospital yesterday to see Mike’s consultant.

We drove up with a little anticipation, not knowing what we would be told. Well, we parked up quite quickly for Maidstone hospital, which is a rarity in itself, checked in at reception, popped and got a hot drink from the kiosk, then got called for a weighing and then round to wait for the consultant, all running on time again, a rarity.

We sat outside the offices with a few people waiting for their consultant appointments. Soon, the consultant invited us into our room. Both of us braced ourselves, uncertain what he’d say—after all, nothing could match the shock of July, when Mike was first diagnosed with prostate cancer.
So we sat down, and Mike was asked how he was feeling and doing. Then he said, “Well, sir…”

I am very pleased with how you have responded to all your treatment after I gave you all that nasty poison of the last few months. And that Mike’s body is regenerating itself with new calcium growth in his bones and bone marrow, doing its thing.

Put it this way, the consultant was beaming like the proverbial Cheshire cat. It must be great for them to give their patients good news, not just devastating, life-changing news.

Mike will remain on hormone jabs for the rest of his life now to keep the prostate in check, and has to take some tablets which the hospital forgot to give him back in November after his last chemo for a few months. Other than that, all is good.

We left the hospital encouraged by the consultant’s positive update on Mike’s recovery.
I am so proud of my husband Mike with everything he has had to go through over these last 9 months, the ups and downs, seeing him so sad and in pain, to yesterday seeing a huge weight off his shoulders.

Together we are stronger always, and forever I love you xx.
